The Hellsing ARMS 13mm Anti-Freak Combat Pistol: Jackal (ヘルシング戦闘用13mm拳銃ジャッカル, Herushingu Sentō-yō 13mm Kenjū Jakkaru?, shortened to: "The Jackal") was an extremely powerful handgun and one of Alucard's personal weapons.
Alucard's second handgun was the Jackal, which was also made especially for him. The Jackal was made by Walter after Alucard's first encounter with Anderson - in fact, it likely was specifically designed with him in mind, considering the phrase "Jesus Christ is in Heaven Now", a variation on a similar statement on Anderson's equipment, was engraved on the side. The Jackal had an overall length of 39cm (the same length as the Casull), was made from pure silver, and weighed 16kg.
Profile[]
The Jackal is a massive pistol made especially for Alucard, and one of the most powerful handheld weapons in the Hellsing series. It has a length of 39cm (16 in), a weight of 16kg (35 lbs), and a black gunmetal construction, and uses massive 13mm explosive rounds. The words "Jesus Christ is in Heaven now" are engraved upon it, in mockery of a similar statement on Alexander Anderson's gloves. The slide covers the entire top frame, and there are thus no creases or lines on the top part of the gun, making room for the engraving. Obviously, no human could possibly use this gun without being blown away by it. The breech also faces the left, instead of the right, so it's more of a sister gun to the .454, though its magazines can hold about the same amount of bullets that the Casull is capable of. The bullets are different as well, being a bigger 13mm, with a gold casing, a reinforced core for armor penetration, a mercury explosive, and each bullet being baptized. Compared to the Casull, the Jackal is distinctly lacking in terms of aesthetic features, and is devoid of any contours on the side or frame save for the grip.

Its unique design makes it seem as if it doesn't have a pistol slide; however, the entire upper assembly is the slide, and moves only a minimal distance compared to other guns', making it appear as if there is no pistol slide. The Jackal has its silver ejector port on the left side, implying that it is meant to be used in conjunction with the Casull (sending the shells to the left prevents them from obscuring the wielder's view), and in the manga, Alucard is usually shown wielding both guns at once. This gun is of fantastic proportions. No 13mm round for a pistol was ever produced (due to the size and recoil), meaning each bullet must be manufactured by the Hellsing Organization, which is stamped on the rollmarks of the casings. It's curious as to how this weapon can weigh 16kg when a full-size 7.62X51mm machine gun typically only weighs 11kg, though the weight is probably necessary to control the 13mm rounds. With a gun this heavy, one could probably utilize a .50 BMG round (which translates to 12.7x99mm) and still have the same desired effect.

Usage[]
The Jackal was the result of Alucard's request to Walter for "something bigger" after his Casull proved largely useless against Alexander Anderson. The butler delivered in full with the creation of the Jackal; in fact, the inscription on its side implies that it was meant especially to end Anderson's life. Alucard would repeatedly express his satisfaction with the new firearm, declaring that it was "perfect". Ever since then until the fight with Walter, Alucard had dual-wielded the Jackal with the Casull.

The Jackal fires a huge, armor-piercing, 13mm explosive rounds. The rounds are jacketed with a "casing" of blessed Macedonian silver and feature an explosive tip containing a charge of pre-blessed mercury. However, the 13mm round's size limits the Jackal's magazine capacity to six rounds.
The rounds use "Marvell's Chemical Cartridge N.N.A.9", though the exact nature of the propellant mix is undefined. The length of the Jackal (16 in), and its physical depiction, imply a barrel length in excess of 13 inches. This is comparable to many tactical rifle barrel lengths; since longer barrels are needed to stabilize faster and more powerful rifle rounds, it implies that the power of this cartridge is likely higher than the .50 Action Express (12.7x33mm) caliber, potentially closer to the .500 Smith & Wesson Magnum (12.7x42mm) caliber or the .500 Nitro Express (13x76mm) caliber; both being powerful rifle-level cartridges. Since these are human cartridges and the Marvell cartridge is designed for Alucard, it likely generates even more energy and pressure (see Stopping Power section); this likely requires an extremely strong pistol frame, requiring advanced construction to avoid being destroyed by the cartridge pressures. The materials needed for this may explain the Jackal's absurdly heavy weight (35 lbs), which is easily three times the weight of most tactical rifles and over twice the weight of the M249 light machine gun, which is a crew-served weapon known for its high weight. It is likely also required to reduce the Marvell cartridge's recoil to an amount that does not tear the slide off of the lower grip frame.
The bullets were designed primarily to be used against Iscariot's top agent, Alexander Anderson, who shrugged off the Casull's rounds with ease. They proved powerful enough to negate Anderson's great regenerative abilities and blow off parts of him. The Jackal's ammunition also makes for an extremely effective anti-vampire combat weapon in general.
Like the Casull, Alucard has reloaded the Jackal various times but has also greatly exceeded the number of rounds per magazine. The reason he is able to do this is never explained but in the back of volume 1, Kouta Hirano has jokingly stated that "They're all cosmoguns that can hold a million rounds".
Stopping Power[]
The power of Jackal is much greater than the Casull's. The incredible power of comparable .50 caliber and .500 caliber cartridges (delivering energy in excess of 4000-7500 Joules) is still designed for humans; since the Marvell cartridge used by the Jackal is designed for Alucard is likely much more powerful, this implies the true power of the cartridge may be closer to the .50 Browning Machine Gun (BMG) caliber.
It was made especially for fighting Anderson who was stubborn enough to survive bullets from Casull. During Alucard and Anderson's duel in London, the Jackal was able to nearly sever his left arm. Later on, a single shot was able to blow Anderson's head completely off from the lower jaw up, despite the bullet striking him on only the left side of the face. However, the Paladin's head regenerated due to the artifact Helena's Nail.
When Alucard fought with Luke Valentine, he easily dodged all of Alucard's shots, but when Alucard used the Jackal he barely dodged its bullet. The wall that the bullet hit was totally destroyed. A single 13mm round later blew Luke's leg clean off. This firearm appears to be able to penetrate BOPE issue Kevlar vests, as seen on OVA III, where he simply fires and fires and punches right through. Due to the nature of the firearm, this is probably because the gun fires a bullet that's bigger than a fifty caliber.
Remote Control[]

At the time the Jackal was ordered, Walter was a secret agent for Millennium Organization and had constructed the gun for Alucard. Alucard used it in every fight after his first encounter with Anderson, except with Rip van Winkle, whom he bested with bare hands.
In Hellsing: Volume 9, it was revealed that the Jackal had an explosive device hidden inside of it by The Doctor, who could detonate it with his remote if Alucard was to gain a significant edge against Millennium with it. Because of this reveal, it is possible that Walter was in the ranks of Millennium when Alucard left for Rio de Janeiro. The remote control has many uses, including a button to fire a missile; which is very much not possible. It probably means that Hirano drew whatever. Another thing that does not make any sense includes a button that says "DVD", "GAME", and a button that says "BOMB", which, if that serves to self-destruct the weapon itself; it's useless, as there's already a button to self-destruct the Jackal in the first place.
Name[]
The Jackal is named after the eponymous antagonist of The Day of the Jackal, a famous English-French movie released in 1973. In the movie, Jackal was a fictional assassin hired to kill Charles de Gaulle, France's President between 1959-1969. As it's revealed in one of Alucard's dreams in Volume 5, the Jackal is the spirit of the pistol named after him (like the Dune character Baron Vladimir Harkonnen is the spirit of Seras Victoria's cannon). In this dream, Jackal even successfully kills the criticized remake's leading actor, Bruce Willis (ironically, he misses De Gaulle), warning Alucard that he let the imposter too close and that he should "Never let another man choose [his] weapon", foreshadowing Walter's treachery.
Trivia[]
- In the Anime TV series, The Jackal was intended "to kill" Anderson, which didn't happen in the series, as he only injured Anderson's both arms severely, instead it outlived its purpose in killing Incognito.
- The Jackal's ammunition, contrary to popular belief, is not larger than the .50 BMG cartridge as the cartridge shown during Walter's explanation shows the real size of each bullet, which is a little bigger than a .50 Action Express. However, the main source of the bullet's power is the explosive nature of each shell and not the force of the bullet itself. This allows it to decimate walls and armour as shown throughout the show, possibly causing more destructive power to flesh targets than the .50 BMG.
