Arthur Hellsing (アーサー・ヘルシング Āsā Herushingu?) was a minor character, yet plays a pivotal role for Integra's development in the original Hellsing anime.
He was the son of Abraham Van Helsing and the father of Sir Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing. With his expansive knowledge of midians, sought to protect England from occult threat for decades. He was also the Hellsing organisation's leader before being succeeded by her daughter, Integra.
He was voiced by Chikao Ōtsuka in Japanese and John E. Breen in the English dub.
Appearance[]
Physically[]
Arthur was an old man, who's tall and probably due to age, quite lanky. he had a blue eyes and a white facial hair, along with a white fringe fall that falls over the left side of his eyes. Unlike his daughter, Integra, he was a pale man, therefore, it seems that Integra got her looks from her mother.
Clothing[]
Arthur wore a formal clothing, which includes a dark green suit which matches his dress pants color, along with a white shirt with a collar and a black tie. He wore black shoes and a black belt.
Personality[]
Despite his short appearance on screen, it can be assumed that he was a loving and caring father. He also appears to have great knowledge in supernatural creatures, and was a great leader. He's also quite smart, predicting that his brother would do something questionable, that's why he chose Integra as the head of the Hellsing organisation. He also might've been similar to Integra in some regards, as Alucard exclaims that "you ARE your father's daughter" implying a close likeness.
He was respected by everyone, including the Round Table members which includes Sir Hugh Irons and Sir Shelby M. Penwood, which, Shelby stated that because of Integra's current activities, which he deems has been to flashy, her father "would never have been so irresponsibly brash." He was also respected by Alucard himself, who would later on be her daughters servant due to her apparently being so much like her father, saying that no wonder she's the daughter of "that man" after she stands up to him.
History[]
Though everything about Arthur until his death is unknown, it can be assumed that he ran the Hellsing organisation similar to how Integra runs it. Arthur had also renamed Dracula, to Alucard, however, Arthur at some point decided that Alucard was too dangerous and therefore, locked him up in a dungeon forgotten by everyone. He also never told his younger brother, Richard, about Alucard's existence.
Arthur later on met a woman of Indian origins, and married her, then the two got a daughter named Integra. Integra also got her features from her mother, instead of her fathers.
Order 10: Master of Monster[]
When Integra gets a surgery due to "Laura"'s attack, Alucard awakens Integra's memories when she was nearly dying, in which, the memory he awaken, is the time they first met eachother; A young Integra woke up from her bed, and prepares for another lesson by Arthur. Integra later goes into Arthur's office, to which, Arthur gently points out to Integra that she was 5 minutes late. They both starts their lesson and Arthur explains what a "vampire" is, and how to kill the blood-sucking demon, by telling Integra; "The rules for defeating them are many and varied. They have the "power" to tear through humans like rags. They are tyrants who execute not simple mindedly, but with their own logic. That is a vampire - Vampires are blood-sucking demon with intelligence."
Arthur then proceeds to hold Integra hands and explains the Hellsing organisation's mission, and tells Integra that when he dies, the next head of the family is her, instead of his younger brother, Richard Hellsing.
The next scene cuts off to Arthur on his death bed, surrounded by Richard, Walter C. Dornez and Integra. Arthur apparently caught some unknown disease, which is fatal and was killing him slowly. On his death bed, he explains that his hour has come to Integra, and states his will with the following; "My will is that you and you alone, will lead the family. I call upon you to be the next head of our sacred organisation." He then proceeds to plead for Richard to be a guide and support his daughter. He then states that he has so much to teach her, then suddenly coughs blood. He finishes his sentence and tells Integra that the honorable blood of the Hellsing family flows through her, and in his final words, Arthur says; "Remember Integra; be glorious."
Arthur also told Integra the existence of Alucard before he passed away, saying that if she had encounter a crisis, where there's no other choice; go to the dungeons below forgotten by everyone, and there lies... a means to protect her.

Sir Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing[]
Although he only appears only briefly in the anime, it is clear that Integra loved him very much and was deeply loved by him. Their relationship was likely close and affectionate, although he had high expectations of her. When she appears late to their meeting, he gently points out her tardiness. Judging by their lessons, in the episode Master of Monster. The episode shows that Integra was very close to her father and that the memory of his death still moves her to tears. Her father is shown as both an affectionate parent and a mentor figure. Through his teachings, Integra learns of the true purpose of the Hellsing organisation in their war against the vampires and also learns what the vampires are capable of.
On his deathbed, Arthur names Integra the new head of the Hellsing family. He touches her face and tells her before he dies, "Remember Integra, be glorious." Before his death, it is discovered that Arthur entrusted Integra with Alucard's location in the dungeons (something that he did not tell his own brother) in case she ever needed protection. Because of her close connection with her father, Integra takes great pride in her family and the organisation that her family has built.
Integra also stated that her father, was her father when being compared by the Convention of Twelve members.
Richard Hellsing[]
Though we only see them interact once, it is clear that when Arthur chose Integra as Hellsing's new head, he didn't trust Richard. And that decision made Richard incredibly angry, as he stated that he had been waiting for over 20 years for his brothers "demise", only for his daughter to become Hellsing's leader and not him. Furthermore, Integra suspected that due to Richard's action of hunting her down, she suspected that she entrusted her of the Hellsing organisation, because he had feared that Richard would be reduced to this - a statement that made Richard incredibly furious.
Arthur also never told Richard of Alucard's existence, meaning he did predict that some time in the future, Richard would do something terrible and Alucard must be called. Though before all of this, the two seems to be on very good terms, most likely that Richard is just simply waiting. However, after the decision was made, Arthur pleaded for Richard if he could simply support Integra, meaning that he had a little trust towards his little brother.
Integra's Mother[]
At some point in time, Arthur met a woman of Indian origin and settled down with her long enough to have a child: Integra. It is unclear exactly what kind of relationship they had, although during his tenure as Hellsing's Head, Arthur kept a photo of her holding their daughter on his desk

Alucard[]
While the two never interacted, at least on screen, Arthur was the one who gave Alucard his name and yet, was also the one who locked him up in the forgotten dungeon in the Hellsing manor, starving. However, Alucard even then respects Arthur, from time-to-time, he stares at a picture of Arthur after he died. Alucard also states that Integra is truly her fathers daughter, before bowing down and apologizes for his disrespect.
Walter C. Dornez[]
Because of Arthur's short appearance on-screen, the two never interacted. However, it can be assumed that Walter was a loyal and trusting butler to Arthur.
