The lone Pastor (牧師様, Bokushi?) was a minor antagonist featured in the Hellsing series written and illustrated by Kouta Hirano. In the anime and the OVA, he was voiced by Kazuhiro Nakata in Japanese; and J.B. Blanc in the English dub of both versions.

Appearance[]

The Pastor was an older looking man, appearing somewhere in his forties, with grey hair (black in the OVA), very sharp and prominent features, and hellish red eyes. He had pale skin, sharp fangs and dressed in darker, monochromatic priest clothing.

Personality[]

From what little we see of him, the Pastor seems as sadistic and depraved as most of his kind. He planned on raping Seras, thereby disallowing her to become a vampire like himself, because he didn't want a vampire with free will running around. Power hungry, dismissive, arrogant, cowardly and violent.

History[]

The Pastor was a lone Pastor who arrived at the village's church. He rarely appeared outside during the day and on rare occasions he would venture forth, it was always on the most overcast of days. Soon, the pastor's first victim is a teenage boy, and the situation became an emergency after 10 people disappeared by the pastor. Though the Police stormed his church after he was found having a blood on his mouth, the timing was bad since it was the night, the pastor quickly attacked them and two days later, the Hellsing Organisation quickly got involved.

Seras Victoria was working with the London Police Department and was called out with her special unit to investigate the trouble that the pastor and his ghoul army were causing. This power-hungry vampire ambushed Seras with his ghouls and had almost killed her- until Alucard, Hellsing's finest agent, was deployed by The Hellsing Organisation to 'clean up' the scene. He was shot in the heart and subsequently impaled by Alucard after he unsuccessfully tried to take Seras as a hostage and his Ghoul army was destroyed.

Abilities[]

As a vampire, it can be assumed the pastor had the standard vampiric abilities, such as immortality, enhanced strength, speed, and reflexes. He was also shown to have the ability of regeneration, as when Seras shot him in the head, the wound quickly healed itself. As a vampire, he also had the ability to turn non-virgins into ghouls for his own personal army, which he greatly used to his advantage.

Despite all of this, he was shown to quickly resort to holding Seras hostage in order to protect himself, meaning he was not confident in his abilities to combat Alucard, demonstrating his overall weakness as a vampire.

There is some evidence that the pastor was an artificial vampire created by Millennium instead of a true vampire. He burnt up in blue flames when he was killed by Alucard, in the same way artificial vampires were shown to have been destroyed by the Doctor's implanted chip. On the other hand, the pastor mentions his ability to turn virgins into vampires, a power which only true vampires have. Because no other true vampires are shown in the series besides Seras and Alucard, we cannot know for sure.

Trivia[]

  • The priest's manner of death in the anime differs of that depicted in both the manga and OVA. In the manga and OVA, he was killed by Alucard in the forest, while in the anime he was killed in the chapel. Also, in the OVA and manga, he is shot, then impaled by Alucard. In the anime, he's only shot.
  • His plans for Seras in the anime are also altered. In the manga and OVA, he plans to rape her, then turn her into a ghoul. In the anime, it seems he wants to turn her into his vampire mistress (he may have been feigning this though, as he cares nothing for her once his life is threatened by Alucard).
  • He is the only known character in the manga and OVA who is a true vampire who is not directly descended from Alucard.
